Mary’s Fair Isle Tam

This is the 3rd year that we have offered Mary’s Fair Isle Tam class. This 3 session class will cover how to handle 2 colors, corrugated ribbing, knitting designs, decreasing in pattern, blocking. 2 – 6 colors of Jameison Spindrift are needed for these patterns.

For anyone that would like to learn how to knit Fair Isle but likes to work at a larger gauge, this class is for you. By using 5 colors of Cascade 220, the basics of knitting with 2 colors will be taught. This class will be on Thursday January 15, 2 PM.

This great hat is designed by Grumperina and is a free pattern on the internet. However, please print out your own copy of the pattern prior to the class. Grumperina has given me permission to teach the class but requests that each person retrieve the pattern from it’s original source. Please contact me for information on retrieving the pattern from Ravelry.

Supplies:

Yarn knitting up at 5.5 stitches per inch 142 yards.
US 4 (3.5mm) and US 6 (4 mm) 16 inch circular needles; US 6 (4mm) double pointed needles or size needed to obtain gauge.
Size 6 beads approximately 150
Tapestry needle, and stitch markers

This class is designed for beginning bead knitters. In this class you will learn how to pre-string beads, do a provisional cast-on, work from a chart and place beads, and do a 3 needle bind-off. The wristers are 14 stitches wide so this is a fast, easy project.

Supplies needed:

Yarn and needles that work up at 5.5 stitches per inch.
Size 6 beads
Beading needle

Supplies will be available at Unraveled Sheep.

Here Come da pictures — Kyler’s Kardigan and Wonderful Wallaby

Kyler’s Kardigan is a new pattern from Cottage Creations. It is a version of their Wonderful Wallaby. However it is knit from the top down, and is done in garter stitch. Thank you to my beautiful model.

The Wonderful Wallaby is a classic pattern designed to be a sweatshirt with pocket and hood. Both Kyler’s Kardigan and Wonderful Wallaby come in size 2 to adult X-large.

Anyone is welcome to join us on the Knit-a-long, patterns are suitable for beginners to advanced knitters. If you are a beginning knitter or this is your 1st sweater, I would recommend knitting the size 2 or 4. It is easier to learn the techniques with a smaller project.

Knit-a-long will be on Friday mornings at 10 AM.

I apologize for not posting for a while. Last week I was dog-sitting and did not have access to the internet in the evenings. All of us, me Forrest, the 3 dogs and 1 cat survived the week.

This weeks free featured pattern is a Mary pattern, baby booties made out of Sublime Baby Cashmere Merino Silk. As always the patterns are free with yarn purchase.

Swirl Fingerless Gloves are this week’s free pattern. They are a great fast project for Christmas knitting, fast and only take 1 skein of Noro’s Yuzen yarn 5.5 stitches per inch.

Why do I knit?

I knit because

I am too impatient not to knit ( I forgot my knitting while waiting for a dr’s appt. recently, I was pacing the office)
I knit because I like the feel of fiber, I love wool even scratchy wool like Jamieson; soft gentle lace weight like Lacey Lamb, Fuzzy mohair; slick cotton; luxurious cashmere;
I love creating, I like to play with colors, textures
I like to do something no one else has done exactly like me before. I like to be unique
I love to wear a one-of-a-kind garment
I love self-striping yarn, I can’t wait to see what is going to happen next, it’s better than a movie (I also like to knit at the movies)
I love to walk, knit and solve the world’s problems.
I love to knit while riding in the car, it keeps me from being too nervous on the freeway.
I love color
I love to follow a chart and see the pattern emerge.
I love that I am continuing my fiber tradition from my parents, my father the needlepointer and my mother the knitter and master crocheter. At the age of 94 she was still crocheting complicated patterns from charts.
I love to design but hate to write down the pattern. I keep changing it.
I love the way knitting can sooth and calm the mind.
I love the way knitting can challenge the mind and keep it plastic.
I am irritable if I do not knit.
I love wearing hand-knit socks in the winter
I love looking at my Kaffe Fasset sweaters (they really don’t fit me he does 1 size fits all)
I am becoming fascinated by bead knitting, how it adds the perfect touch.
I am a process knitter, I just like to knit. The finished is not always that important
